GSLS Discovers California

4th-6th Grade Sacramento Trip

Parents,

Your child has the exciting opportunity to visit the California State Capitol Building and Sutter’s Fort! GSLS participates in the We Discover California program with two other Christian schools; First Lutheran of Burbank and First Lutheran of San Fernando. We believe this educational opportunity is invaluable to our students and although not required, we highly encourage all 4th-6th grade students to attend.

We will be spending two days together in Coloma and Sacramento going on guided tours of the California State Capitol Building, Old Sacramento School house, Sutter’s Fort, The Marshal Gold Discovery Park, Railroad Museum and pan for gold in the American River. Cost of the trip is $559-$643 ($559 if four people will be sharing a hotel room, $643 if two people will be sharing a hotel room). Your registration for the trip is $49 and is due by November 1, 2008. Your remaining balance is due by February 12, 2009.  The $549-$643 includes: roundtrip airfare, hotel accommodations, five meals, guided tours, admission fees, transportation and medical/accident insurance.

Parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend. Please note: when you receive your first statement from World Strides- the company offering the program- there will be an additional $94 cancellation fee added to your account. Basically, if you were to become ill or an unavoidable emergency prevented you from going on the trip in April, World Strides will refund your trip minus the $94 refund fee. This cancellation fee is optional, if you would like to opt out of the refund program you MUST contact Customer Service at 1-800-468-5899.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.      Is the school fundraising money for the trip?

Yes! Each year our school has a recycling fundraiser for the upper-grade class trip. The fundraiser begins August 25, 2008 and ends April 15, 2008. All monies collected will be equally divided among each student that attends the field trip. The funds will be reflected on your May tuition bill. If you have additional questions, please contact the school office.

2.      If my child is not going on the trip, do they still have to go to school Wednesday April 28 and Thursday April 29?

Yes. The Sacramento/Gold Rush Trip is considered an extension of school and the student’s course work. Therefore, students not attending the field trip are required to attend school and complete supplemental course work relating to California’s History and the Gold Rush.

3.      Can I book my own flight and hotel accommodations?

No. World Stride and Christian Discoveries negotiates group rates and specials for our school. If you have any questions, please call customer service at 1-800-468-5899.

4.      Can my brother/sister (sibling) attend?

No. Unfortunately, this unique educational experience is meant for our 4th-6th grade students only.
