Hola!
My name is Roxana McElearney. I am very excited to be teaching your children Spanish and Physical Education. I believe your children should learn Spanish because it is a language that is growing fast in California and in the United States; therefore, GSLS students will have better opportunities of success in their future.
I was born in Lima, Peru- and my native language is Spanish. I played sports all my life and I represented Peru in field hockey and basketball. I came to the United States when I was 20 years old. Shortly after that, I joined the U.S. Navy in 1998. I was a Religious Program Specialist or chaplain’s assistant. During my tour in Parris Island I met a Marine Drill Instructor, Paul McElearney, fell in love and got married. We have three children, Dinita age 7, Paul Jr. age 6 and Luchito age 3. My mother and my father, Dina and Tito, are always helping me to take care of the children. My parents are the reason why I do not go nuts every time my husband deploys (for real, I love them!!!!!!!!). Dinita and Paulie are students here at GSLS and Luchito is attending GSLS pre-school.
I taught physical education in Lima, Peru for five years and have been tutoring Spanish to high-school students and college students for the last ten years. Presently, I’m attending Azusa Pacific University to earn (February 2010) a B.A. in Human Development with an emphasis in elementary education. After that, I will start my teaching credential/Master's combo for single subject teaching (Spanish). I should earn my Master's sometime in 2011.
The Spanish program at GSLS is approved by the California Department of Education; the curriculum, by McGraw Hill publisher, uses the System A and the Hola program. Please come and visit me at anytime to explain and show you more about the program.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to shoot me an email at rmcelearney@yahoo.com or by calling the school office at 951.672.6675 ext 227.
God Bless,
Roxana McElearney
