Frequently Asked Questions 2009-2010 School Year

Q: What kind of Christian education do you offer?

A: At GSLS we offer an environment where children, teachers, staff and parents can pray, rejoice, sing, talk of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Students receive daily bible instruction in their class rooms and attend a weekly chapel service.

 Q: What is a Lutheran?

A: A Lutheran is a Christian --one who trust Jesus Christ as their Savior. Lutherans accept the Bible as the true source of Christian love, guidance and doctrine and accept the same ancient creeds (Apostles', etc). Lutherans proclaim God's message by emphasizing justification of faith and teaching that a person is not to live according to a formula of do's and don’ts, but in the freedom of Christian love. For more information, read Pastor's Scott's, "What Lutheran's Believe, Teach and Confess".

Q: Is GSLS on a traditional or year-round schedule?

A: Students are on a traditional school-year schedule. Students begin classes in late August and end in mid June. There is no school on all major holidays, and the week of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.

Q: What are your school hours?

A:  School is in session from:

8:30 a.m. - 2:45 p.m. K-1

8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. 2-6

Q: What brand of curriculum do you use?

A: We use Abeka, a Christian based and approach to learning in the classroom. For more information please visit Abeka's website.

Q: Are teachers at GSLS credentialed?

A: All of our classro oom teachers (K-7th) are credentialed and/or have a master’s degree.

Q: Other than traditional classroom subjects, what else do you offer?

A: In addition to traditional classroom subjects—math, language arts, science and social studies—we offer religion, physical education, sign language, and technology classes

Q: Do you have financial aid?

A: Yes, financial aid is available for some students. Please see the school office for more information.

Q: If I enroll my child mid-year, are we still responsible for the entire yearly tuition?

A: No, we will prorate your child's tuition beginning the month they enroll. Registration, technology and material fees cannot be prorated.

Q: Do we have to purchase school uniforms from French Toast?

A: Yes, however, we understand that it may take a few weeks to receive your order. During this time your child may wear clothing that is similar in color and style. (Similar styles and French Toast products may be available at Mervyns and JC Penny)

Q: Do you offer before and after school childcare?

A: Yes, before and after school daycare is offered at an additional cost from 6:30 am- 8:00 am and from 3:00 pm- 6:00 pm Monday through Friday unless otherwise noted.
